Amigans, All of you who attended the Amiga99© Computer show, hosted by Amigan-St. Louis's Bob and Diana Scharp in St. Louis, MO a few years back, will certainly remember the banquet. Dr. Linda Godwin, a current astronaut and her husband, Col. Steve Nagel (retired USAF), a former astronaut and current NASA employee, were two unforgettable speakers. Linda not only spoke of her exploits in the space program, she brought a video that blew our (Amiga) socks off. Well, it's Linda's turn to go into space again. I have heard that she is scheduled to launch November 29. The mission calls for her and several other astronauts to go to the new space station, and return several days later. I know I speak for all of you when I say that Diana and I wish her the very best flight and a soft touchdown back on earth. For more information on the mission, see the NASA's website, and follow the various links. Here is some brief information off of their site at: http://www.nasa.gov Date/2001 Vehicle Pad Mission Nov. 29 OV-105 39-B KSC STS-108/International Space Station-UF1 T-0: TBD Linda's NASA EXPERIENCE: Dr. Godwin joined NASA in 1980, in the Payload Operations Division, Mission Operations Directorate, where she worked in payload integration (attached payloads and Spacelabs), and as a flight controller and payloads officer on several Shuttle missions. Selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate in June 1985, Dr. Godwin became an astronaut in July 1986. Her technical assignments have included working with flight software verification in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL), and coordinating mission development activities for the Inertial Upper Stage (IUS), deployable payloads, and Spacelab missions. She also has served as Chief of Astronaut Appearances, Chief of the Mission Development Branch of the Astronaut Office and as the astronaut liaison to its Educational Working Group, Deputy Chief of the Astronaut Office, and Deputy Director, Flight Crew Operations Directorate. A veteran of three space flights, Dr. Godwin has logged over 633 hours in space, including a 6-hour spacewalk. In 1991 she served as a Mission Specialist on STS-37, was the Payload Commander on STS-59 in 1994, and in 1996 was on the crew of STS-76, a Mir docking mission. Dr. Godwin is currently assigned to STS-108, UF-1, which will be a flight to the International Space Station (ISS) to change out the ISS crew and to deliver supplies, logistics and science experiments. Let's all keep her in our prayers for a successful mission and a safe return. On a personal note... In case you have not heard, Diana and I will not be hosting an AMIGA® event in St. Louis this year. We are in the process of adopting a son, and this is keeping us very busy. We have to fly to Russia to finalize the adoption. We have been spending much time on this over the past year. Although we were able to do the Amiga 2001© show, we found that the adoption, our merger with American Airlines, new security policies, extra training required by American, my switching to a newer and bigger aircraft, the airport getting ready to purchase our house, the neighbors houses being torn down, and our need to build a new house, will preclude our doing a show for 2002. We are still doing our video business and selling Amiga items, so feel free to visit our web site for information on that at: http://www.amiga-stl.com The Petro ROAST tape, from the Amiga 2001 show is about done, and you can order yours now. The Amigan-St. Louis web site has been updated, and it should be updated again, once I get a moment to myself. The good news about our not doing a show this year is that we are now free to attend Kermit's show. We hope you will all join us, when we visit Kermit Woodall's Amiga show, "Amiga Expo 2002", being held near Baltimore during the same time period we held our shows - late March. Exact dates and more information are available on the website he has put up. He is getting a nice list of exhibitors, and some good speakers are scheduled. Check it out at: http://www.amigaexpo.com Hope to see you all there. I'm sure it will be a great show. Best Regards, Bob & Diana Scharp
