From: Domagoj OzanicSubject: Ignored "Free Choice PPC Kernel Petition" Date: Sat, 15 May 1999 21:59:50 +0100 To: powerup@lists.best.com I must say now that I give up on trying to inform phase5 about petition. I sent multiply emails and FAX (thanks to people who helped me with this) and talked to Ralph Schmitt over IRC. FAX was sent to phase5, emails were sent to Wolf Dietrich (wd@ufoo.phase5.de, wd@gf.phase5.de) and Ralph Schmitt on laire@basis.owl.de. What I got was *nothing*, I only got answer from Ralph Schmitt on IRC saying exactly this: > why don't you call haage that he produces the hw for his products ?..then > you wouldn't have such problems with your purchases as you get what you want. I asked him about the matter of phase5 recognizeing the petition and why not answering about the same issue :-( I am very angry now, because it is my obligation to the people who signed the petition to do whatever I can, so that petition is successfull. I have no choice but to publish on "Free Choice..." Web page, various Amiga mailing lists and newsgroups that phase5 is ignoring the petition and 753 people who signed it. The petition is still alive and I am still receiveing new signs. URL is http://jagor.srce.hr/~doozanic/ I am pretty much sure that phase5 (Wolf Dietrich) is recognizing the petition but phase5 is ignoring it. Now the situation about PPC kernels is much different than it was when petition was started. Now we have clearly WarpOS as the kernel with the better support, number of programs, support in AOS3.5 and public opinion on its side. Also now we have tools to fight forced kernel in flashrom like BPPCFix and PowerUP emulation in general so I assume that in general the petition had some effect on the better situation we have now about the whole problem :-) -- Domagoj Ozanic (doozanic@public.srce.hr) WARP - AMIGA Magazine http://islands.zesoi.fer.hr/~dpuljiz/warp/ AMIGA 1200T | BPPC 603e/200 MHz | 34 MB RAM 68LC040/25 MHz | BVisionPPC/Permedia2 | Quantum Fireball 4.3 GB AmigaOS | LinuxPPC | MacOS
