30.9.99 Eyelight News
|
Now you can get Tornado3D v2.1 with FREE upgrade to v3.0 and an extra 10% saving when
buying direct! (EXTENDED to October, 21th!)
Gamedemo for CGX3Drave, (c)1999 Eyelight is a rather old "game-like" demo for CGX3Drave that showed
off the basics of Gamma, the 3D games construction kit from Eyelight. It requires a CVPPC since the
software engine they developed for CGX3D rave is not available to the public.
You can get it here.
Unfortunately Gamma has been canceled for the Amiga, due to the many shakes the market suffered. If
there is enough interest and at least 500 Amigans pre-order Gamma for as low as 50.00 EURO/ US
Dollars, we'll still produce it both in 68K and PPC versions.

29.9.99 PPC680x0 Development
|
It has been about a week ago since the test sessions of PPC680x0 have started. There was a little problem
with the '(f)scc' command which has been fixed now. Also, detecting and calling 68K library functions
from the PPC side has been tested and works correctly. We are planning to show how to convert 68K
executables to PPC executables (by reassembling the executable and convert it) at the Computer 99 show
and will show them running on WarpUp after conversion. Currently, we have started development of DevPac-
and PowerAsm- compatible macro support for PPC680x0. We hope to have AltiVec support as well before the
end of this year. The new Aminet promo will be released this week.

15.9.99 FUSION-PPC in the works! HURRAAA!

it is done much sooner... especially in light of the competition between Microcode Solutions and
Emulators, Inc. to release a PPC version for the PC. The retail price for
the PowerPC upgrade module is $199.95. If you pre-pay before the release of the product (regardless of the stated

14.9.99 Photogenics 4.2
|
Paul Nolan is pleased to announce Photogenics 4.2, another free update to existing users of Photogenics 4.x.
The main new features in 4.2 are Tool Tips for quick and easy explanations of all of the items in the tool bar,
a Media Cache for improved Media loading times, and new paint on image processing modes such as: Gamma, Sharpen,
UnsharpMask, BizarrePixelize, Randomize, and Channel Randomize. Blur, Convolve and RadialBlur have been
rewritten for more speed, features and options. In particular Blur is now incredibly fast. Processing a 50x50
pixel blur on a 800x600 image now takes less than 2 seconds on an 060, with a huge 500x500 pixel blur taking
just 3 seconds, and is fast enough to apply with the AirBrush! Several minor changes include an enhanced Scale
with improved quality and feedback, an improved Text tool, a reduction in the memory need by Photogenics by one
megabyte (now uses just two megs with no images loaded), various overall speed improvements, keyboard shortcuts
for zoom and pan, plus tweaks to the user interface.

13.9.99 Sweden's only Amiga magazine is no more

The only printed Swedish Amiga magazine Amiga Info/AI Echo announced September 10 that it has ceased
publishing. It was started back in 1996 by Thomas Svensson and the final issue (19) was published in
March of this year. That final issue saw a name change from Amiga Info to AI/Echo to reflect the
magazine going from being an Amiga-only magazine to also write about Linux. Although that meant an
increase in sales it was not enough to save the magazine.

Paolo D'Urso, Darkage Software:
"We won't support AmigaNG until they decide to give us technical specs and developer machines.
Yes, we're working on a new, secret title, and there would be no problems to do an AmigaNG
version as the code is very portable, but after the Bill Mc Ewen and Jim Collas' departure,
we're sorry to say that the only Amiga we support is the "classic" one. We will finish our
current titles and then see what the market will offer us. It's hard for a small company to
survive developing software for Amiga, and if we don't receive support from Amiga Inc., we
can't think anymore to write games and programs for this machine."

4.9.99 Amiga Boots Two Execs

Wired News - Amiga Boots Two Execs
Why would the two top Amiga executives suddenly leave the company to "pursue other options?" And does the parent company, Gateway, think anyone
will believe that? Jim Collas, a seven-year veteran of Gateway and president of its Amiga subsidiary for nine months, suddenly left the company
on 1 September without explanation. Also departing was Bill McEwan, the marketing and software evangelist and one of the most visible proponents
of the Amiga platform. Gateway spokesman Brad Shaw said both Collas and McEwan left "to pursue other options," and would not comment on the
circumstances behind the departure of the two. McEwan said that's flat out not the case. "I didn't leave," he said. "I did not leave Amiga;
Amiga left me."

1.9.99 FusionPPC News
|
Joseph Fenton:"Although AmigaOS doesn't officially support the MMU, WarpOS does, which is why WarpOS
will be required for the initial release of FUSION PPC. Also, all new PPC cards will come with the
needed HAL for WarpOS; any PPC should work with WarpOS with only the HAL being changed (which is why
Sam did the HAL). WarpOS is the official PPC OS of AmigaOS 3.5, so I would guess that most PPC
manufacturers will support it. I guess there will be two camps, AmigaOS/WarpOS, and QNX/PowerUP.
We will look into a QNX version of FUSION PPC when QNX becomes available."

1.9.99 AHI News
|
The PPC assembler mixing routines are much faster than the C version, although there is still plenty of room
for improvements. It's also stable now, which means author will release a beta version in a couple of days.
This is a "incomplet and incorrekt" list of what's left to be done (until I'll release the final version of
AHI/PPC, that is. There is still much to be done to AHI itself, of course):
Add PPC assembler mixing routines for 16 bit samples (resolved before the beta is released)
Add m68k assembler mixing routines (8 and 16 bit)
Add WarpUp support (partly done)
Considered adding non-hifi mixing routines when the new mixing code has stabilized

1.9.99 Games News
|
Goal 2000 is a rework of the old classic, Goal. Alive are currently saying that the game will see the light of day sometime in September.
A new and final demo of Virtual Grand Prix has just been released on Aminet (1.25MB).
The game that was originally released in demo form under the name of AlienF1 a few years ago has now reached the end of its development. The game should
be released withing the next few days. A quick update on the features of the game reveals such things as all 16 circuits from the 1998 GP season,
telemetry, 3D rendered animations, digitised speech and of course, the most realistic racing simulation ever. Development doesn't end completly here
though as the author plans to improve it with one of the first additions hopefully being PPC support which may allow 640x512 resolutions.
