30.8.2k PCI/AGP Busboard Coming To Amiga
|
In the latest issue of Amiga Active Magazine, they report that another
PCI Busboard is on its way to Amiga. The "Predator" Busboard will connect to existing PPC accelerators cards to
provide very fast transfer rates. The Predator is equipped with 3 PCI slots, one AGP slot and a single SDRAM socket
for up to 256 MB of Ram. By connecting to the expansion connector of the Blizzard PPC and Cyberstorm PPC cards, the
Predator will have access to the full 4 GB of the PowerPC CPU's address space. The Bus itself will run at 66 MHZ.
Work is already on the way on porting drivers for the Voodoo 5 AGP GFX card. The Predator will be available late
September with a suggested retail price around £170.00. Details on who is manufacturing the card is unclear.

26.8.2k iFusion: There is light at the end of the tunnel
|
There is light at the end of the tunnel ... and MS are sure it is not a train! They will be posting
the new iFUSION interface for customer review in the near future. Since the emulation itself has
been greatly simplified, many of the options found in FUSION are no longer necessary. For example,
we do not need seperate video drivers for every video card now. iMacs don't have floppy drives
built-in, so there is no need for a floppy control menu.
MS are looking for a handler or filesystem that allows AmigaDOS devices (DF0:, DH0:, RAM:, etc.) to
be opened and controlled as a file using standard AmigaDOS file I/O commands such as Read(),
Write(), Seek(), etc. If you know about something, write to them immediately!

Although the Amiga situation has not really improved during that time, the Amiga still lives and may even make a comeback in one

now official build 463 client (of 01-Aug-2000) is the same as the prerelease one which has been online for the two weeks before,
and has the unified 040/060 core and other fixes. The lurk mode and other related functionality is still in beta and will make it
into the next build (464). This bump is scheduled later also because of other enhancements such as an improved OGR core (7% faster

Andreas Magerl explains the future on a special page (german).
In fact the so far publisher the Falke-Verlag will discontinue production and selling of Amiga Future after issue #27
because of commercial considerations. Preventing the last Amiga game magzin from being closed Andreas Magerl will
continue to work with his editors. Selling will be based on subscriptions. Therefore you have to know that Andreas
Magerl was responsible for the content and the Falke-Verlag for the layout and sales. Because he has not the
marketing channels as a big publishing house has, the further existence depends on the number of subscriptions.
A subscription form is available here. At the moment there
are 6 issues availabel for 60 DM with costs of shipment inclusive (insdide of Germany).

The Catweasel for the PC reads your Amiga floppies as well as all the other formats
a Catweasel can handle. The data is saved in standardized formats that can be used by any Amiga-

X-Surf IDE driver v104.1 is available in the support-area
for a free download! This would not have been possible without help of Software Hut (USA), Eyetech
(England), KDH Datentechnik (Germany), Vesalia Computer (Germany) and Eternity (Germany) who gave Jens Schoenfel
financial help for this gift.
wfmhcybergfxr3d - popular plugin library for Real3D that allows 24-bit rendering in GUI windows has been
published with source code - BSD style. Also,
the library is no longer shareware, but rather freeware.

3.8.2k AHI News

Martin Blom: "Believe it or not, but I am still alive. It's time for a new beta, this time for MorphOS,
which was released as a public beta two days ago. If you haven't tried it yet, do so now! Personally, I love it.
This beta, the fourth, is just a new device and preference program, since I still have a couple of build issues to sort out. Note that
you must update the "Default anti-click time" in the advanced preferences if you have used an earlier beta version! I changed the
format of env:sys/ahi.prefs a little. Anyway, download the archive,
unpack it and copy AHI_MUI to SYS:Prefs/AHI and ahi.device.elf.604 to DEVS:ahi.device.elf. Boot into MorphOS and enjoy the fastest mixing you
have ever seen on the Amiga... Then send your detailed bug report to me.
The WarpUp version is still giving me headaches, I'm afraid. It's not looking good."

MorphOS includes a PPC version of SFS, a filesystem by John Hendrikx, which probably a lot amiga users
know by now. As John hasn`t much time anymore for future SFS development we will offer CVS access to
interested and skilled people to gurantee future development and official SFS for AmigaOS and MorphOS
releases. People which are seriously interested and have experience with Amiga filesystems and general
filesystem designs please contact us at ralph@morphos.de.

2.8.2k S-FILE 5: It's ready. Are you?
|
Sofia: "Nightlong (both 68K and PPC) was finished about 10 days ago. It was then sent to Trecision for their final approval.
They had it for a few days now, testing on 68K machine and in a matter of days on PPC, as well. As soon as they approve of
the Amiga version I will be running to our CD duplication facility with masters. BTW, all the printed material for
Nightlong (manual, CD trayliners, etc.) was printed back in February, so we are just waiting for CD duplication,
that's all! S-FILE 5

1.8.2k AmiBench making a comeback
|
Bart King: "Recently, AmiBench's Internet site has become defunct, thanks to our current providers' servers
failing to remain viable for our service needs. DreamHost - our current providers - have failed to give
a reason for the sudden disappearance of AmiBench, and therefore we have taken the decision to move over
to a new provider. The new provider, which will remain nameless, is more than up to the task of
satisfying our current (and future) needs. Because we are moving servers, this means we will need to reconfigure
our DNS servers to make http://www.amibench.org point to our new hosts. In
the mean time, you will be able to access AmiBench from the following URL:
http://amibench.nop.org.uk. AmiBench apologizes for any problems our
service outage has caused, but it was completely out of our control. We hope these new methods will satisfy our
users."

1.8.2k AsimWare Out Of Amiga Bussiness ?
|
Greg Scott, Asimware Innovations Inc.: "Asimware is NOT out of the Amiga business. Many people have been
emailing me regarding such and to set the record straight here are some facts: AsimCDFS has been
discontinued. We have told many people this in the last few months. It is also stated on our Amiga webpage.
MasterISO is not discontinued. For those using old web-browsers, or browsers that do not support
current web-based technologies (such as JavaScript and dhtml) then go to
http://amiga.asimware.com/ to find a list of Asimwares Amiga
products. And before declaring a company out of the Amiga business, ASK THEM! I have seen too many people
post messages in various news forums about Amiga companies that just are not true."

1.8.2k AROS News
|
Aron Digulla: "BGUI has been completely ported to AROS, now. This means that the library can be compiled
and that all demos run. [..] the next thing is to find a filesystem to use. We try to get SFS because
it seems one of the best filesystems for the Amiga at this time."

1.8.2k Voyager News
|
Previous betaversion 3.2.12 of Voyager browser timed out today. Oliver Wagner:
"As a workaround, I've fetched the last sources before the big layouter change
from CVS, compiled it and uploaded it to the usual mirror sites. So, if you
have been using 3.2.12 and are not happy with the timeout, there's a 3.2.13
waiting for you."
"As for the new layout engine: It's about back for some basic
browsing by now, and if there is enough interest, I can upload an alpha
snapshot of it as well. It's not fit to replace a completely working browser
yet (no frames, form submission not completely working, JS completely
disabled), but it gives a nice impression."
