20.7.99 SDS seeking Blitz professional
Satanic Dreams Software announced Minimum Safe Distance, cross between Cannon Fodder, Worms and King Arthur's World (SNES) or as Satanic Dreams prefer saying its "Worms in Real-Time". Rob Hutchinson posted this cry for help to the Blitz Basic ML:
One of the programmers has had to drop out. Anyway, the game is already half-developed, I know there are a lot of GREAT programmers on this list. And I wonder if there is anyone with good enough BLITZ-MODE/GameCreation skills to work on a commercial game and jump into someone else`s work? Obviously it will require a reasonably high level of mathematics. This will also REQUIRE you to be able to keep in contact with the other developers' (artists, musicians, etc) DAILY, Not weekly or every other day. And be willing to drop all other projects to work soley on Minimum Safe Distance. Also you must be able to give the game a reasonable amount of attention daily.

15.7.99 Amiga still hiring
Patrick Anderson writes: "Yesterday I attended a huge high tech job fair in San Jose, California. One of the participants was Amiga Inc. I picked up the flyer from their booth and have placed a scanned image of it at the link above. One interesting thing is that they are looking for a MIPS Port Engineer. Also, the guy said that they signed the lease on the San Jose office this week. It is located very close to the airport, which will make it easy to travel to and from San Diego. He said there are about 15 people currently employed at Amiga. He explained to people that the computer as we know it was obsolete and Amiga wants to revolutionize the computer. All of the booths at the job fair were pretty busy, and Amiga's booth was no exception."

But the Amiga has always had its problems with erratic management, this is no exception. If we want to affect the future of the Amiga, the time to act is now. If Collas/Amiga on the other hand know exactly what they are doing and have a masterful plan, it should not hurt to let them know the opinion of Amiga users and developers anyway."

9.7.99 QNX statement: Where Do We Stand?
Eight months ago we were chosen by Amiga as their foundation OS partner. Our development group was thrilled to be part of the rebirth of such an innovative product. To meet the challenge we knew it would take a tremendous effort on our part. We had a team of people in place working on our part of the Amiga NG soon after the alliance was announced. Over the next few months we involved more and more of our engineering resouces towards making QNX an advanced multi-media platform. Our investment so far has been significant. These are costs we have born ourselves.
It is clear today from Jim's letter that we were not chosen for the next generation Amiga. Naturally we're disappointed. So, where do we stand now? It is not our intent to confuse the Amiga community. We are proud of what we have accomplished and want to include Amigans in what we've achieved. I did make a promise to deliver an operating system and I intend on keeping that promise. I don't want to split the community, nor do I wish to engage in a war of words. I don't ask you to "trust" me or to take me at my word. Both QNX and Amiga have promised to deliver technology into your hands in the very near future. I ask only that your assessment of QNX be based on what we do and what we deliver.
Thanks for the overwhelming support we have received so far.

5.7.99 Heretic II for Amiga
Hyperion acquires license from Activision to port Raven Software's "Heretic II" to the Amiga. Heretic II is the sequel to Heretic and Hexen and is based on Id Software's advanced Quake2 engine. The Amiga version will require a PPC processor (WarpOS) and a graphicscard and will take full advantage of 3D accelerators through Warp3D. The possibility of a 68060 version is under investigation but would in any case require 3D acceleration. Other features include virtual 3D sound (supported through AHI) and network-play (internet, modem, LAN). The Amiga port will be carried out by Peter Annuss (ADescent PPC, EGCS WarpUp), Joe Sera (AQCVid, Skyline II, ObjectWorkshop), Hans-Joerg Frieden (Warp3D, ADescent W3D, Shogo) and others. Release is expected to be early to mid Q4 1999.
