30.6.2k New Distributed.net Client for AmigaOS (68k/PPC)
|
The new clients are finally out! Surf to the Distributed.Net download section to get them.
These are faster and come in 3 flavours, 68k, WarpUP and PowerUP. They also enable Amigans to enter the OGR contest (when it reopens).
Distributed.amiga.org site does not have the latest setup/usage information yet, but this will be updated
during the weekend. Remember to flush your old blocks, backup your ini file and recreate it with the -config option. Don't forget to set your E-mail
address again, and also note that Myzar v2.0 does not handle these clients!
Myzar has been updated as well, to version 2.1. Download from Myzar site. This version supports only
the new clients (460+). Note that it supports most but not all new features of the new clients, such as setting thresholds to a time limit instead of
units/packets (this will obviously be updated in the next release).

Gamers Depot released an interesting interview with Bill McEwen, CEO of AmigaInc.
GD: Do you see Amiga releasing new hardware in the future? Bill: We're not a hardware company, but we will have a new Amiga machine, built by a third party using off the shelf
parts. We aren't giving the specifics out yet, however my personal favorite CPU is the DEC Alpha, and that's the way I'd go if I could. Expect an announcement forthcoming towards the end

The release of the new Software Development Kit (SDK) has brought AmigaOS back into the light and many people are judging it based

this is why people should not dismiss it until they understand better what is going on.

New betaversion (V.45.00 beta 3) of stormamiga.lib V.45.00
for AmigaOS/68k and StormC. Much bugs were fixed and much functions were optimized.
Digital Almanac III will come with a complete new DS-database.
The advantage of the new database makes it easier to expand and results in a much shorter program code (ca. 100 kB shorter
then before !). The catalogs are now treated all equal, the program will no more handle all catalogs seperatly. The database
now contains more than 100,000 objects, including the large PGC catalog. The new structure of the database makes it easy to
handle with objects that have different names. The old format of DA II contained lots of objects twice, because the program
was not able to recognize some objects being the same but with different names.

20.6.2k Hyperion thanks loyal A-miga users for Heretic 2 feedback

comment about low sales. We want to thank everyone who took the time to send a note of encouragement and support. These
people realise that it is extremely short-sighted to buy expensive hardware and then go on to pirate the software that
takes advantage of this hardware as the end-result will be that no new software will be available. Hyperion doesn't
think it's fair to punish loyal users because of the misdeeds of pirates. We will continue to deliver on our promise of
providing high-end, high-quality products but implore everybody out there not to pirate and make our work impossible."

18.6.2k Sales of Heretic II VERY disappointing
|
Sales of Heretic II have been very disappointing with only 400 copies sold
so far. With an estimated 10.000 PPC cards out there, less than half of a percent (0.4%) of PPC users bought the game.
If sales of Heretic 2 do not go up significantly from the 400 copies sold so far, Hyperion will have no choice but to cease all further
Amiga development. We knew sales would not be high but 400 copies is ridiculously low considering the fact we had more than 1500 downloads
of the demo. Obviously piracy is still rampant.
Well 4% will be much more accurate :-) and it's too early to judge IMHO (ExiE)

14.6.2k More Info About PCI
|
Steffen Haeuser: "Hi! To clear up some things about these soon-to-appear PCI Interfaces - Initially a A1200 version will be released,
some weeks after the A1200 version there will be a A4000 version. Elbox is doing Picasso 96 drivers themselves which are
progressing fast in developement, Hyperion will do Warp3D drivers. The interface
reaches around 22 MB/sec. which is slightly faster than the Cyberstorm PPC CybervisionPPC interface. When the interface is released,
cheap PCI cards will be already available for it. The main "problem" of current GFX Cards (which still are the best which the Amiga
has currently) is the fillrate of the chips, not the Bus Bandwidth, which means 3D Games should *fly* on the new boards. Elbox plans
supporting more PCI Cards asides from GFX Cards later then."

tooltypes have new name. NOTE: You most read and understand the MELTDOWN section on the CGX Settings Page!! This is SERIOUS!
You could ruin your card and have to buy another one! You MUST have extra cooling for the Permedia2 chip!! USE IT AT YOUR OWN

IINSTALLEDAFANONMYPERMEDIA2 tooltype anyways. Read and understand! New Tooltypes for A2410, OSC1, OSC2 and GREENSYNC.

around 1.5 years ago. Gaz Murfin: "We don't yet even know what language it was programmed in, but I'm guessing at C/C++. If you know either
