29.6.2001 Merlancia Industries announces Startegic Allliance with individual Computers
|
"Merlancia Industries is pleased to announce a strategic relationship with 'individual Computers';
to design a controller device that will be utilised on our Torro series systems. The device,
a custom chip controller, named 'CLeo' will be available as an add-on kit for the Pilot release
systems (to be included with all systems shipping after it's release, and to be sent to all
developer systems sold before-hand). The 'CLeo" custom device is based on technology first
implemented in individual Computers' 'CatWeasel' disc controller, and will allow the reading and
writing of Amiga native disc formats (880k and 1760k) on our Tsunami system as well as future
directives. Other formats will be supported as well including PC-DOS, and Macintosh-HFS.
We expect to have a prototype of this design at AmiWest Conference (28th to 29th July 2001-
Sacramento, CA; USA) as well as our prototype Pilot system."

27.6.2001 AmigaOne-1200 Timeline updated
|
"It's now several months since this timeline was last updated as most of the day-to-day news
items have been posted to the http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/amigaone mailing list.
However lots of things have happened since we launched the AmigaOne project which have had
an influence on the specification of the final product and therefore the timetable leading
up to delivery." The majority of the improvements come from Amiga's commitment to develop
OS4.0 specifically to run on the AmigaOne-1200 at launch. This is far more than the 'fixed'
version of OS3.9 that was originally envisaged (pending the development of the native PPC
Amiga DE implementation that was originally planned). The new OS4.0 will come with a high
performance file system, virtual memory, high performance PPC-native TCP/IP stack, 1GB
main memory support, UDMA IDE and SCSI and ethernet drivers and Picasso96 2D retargetable
drivers for VooDoo3 PCI/AGP and Matrox G450 PCI/AGP & G550 AGP only graphics cards.
Warp3D/Mesa 3D drivers will also be shipped with the first release of OS4.0.
AmigaOne-1200 boards and OS4.0 should be available to dealers in 1st week of October.

25.6.2001 DCE licenses Voodoo 3 Warp 3D drivers for its G-REX line of PCI products
|
Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce that it has entered into a license agreement
with DCE, producers of the G-REX line of PCI hardware for the Amiga. Under the agreement
Hyperion will support DCE's G-REX 1200 and G-REX 4000 products with fully featured Warp 3D
Voodoo 3 drivers for both 68K and PPC. "We're very pleased that DCE has decided to
respond to demand by its customers for Warp3D drivers for Voodoo 3", says Ben Hermans,
managing partner of Hyperion Entertainment . "Amiga users currently have quite a number of
PCI solutions to chose from and the manufacturers offering the widest range of drivers for
their PCI solutions will clearly have a competitive advantage. From the large number of
e-mails we have received, we can only conclude that the availability of 3D drivers is a key
consideration for users when they make their decision to purchase a specific PCI solution.
To avoid disappointment, we once again urge users interested in 3D graphics to investigate
the availability of Warp3D drivers before purchasing a specific PCI solution."

"Games update: Patricia Curtis (formerly project manager and assistant programmer at Apache Software)
as well as Mark Page (formerly programmer at Apache Software) allowed us to upload the Amiga game
Super Methane Bros. (a game similar to Bubble Bobble, but with better graphics and sounds). You can
download different versions of this game: There is a CD32-HD version (does not run on emulators) and
an ADF version. Like so often I would like to stress that this game is NOT freeware. P. Curtis and
M. Page are still the copyright owners and they granted a permission which is ONLY valid for this site.
BTW: I am looking for the game "Murder makes strange Deadfollows CDTV" by Tiger Media. Is there
somebody of you who has it? Please get in contact with me (Bernd)... And here are the high quality
Public Domain games of this update: Jouster 3 (the arcade classic Joust for the Amiga), Kamakazi
Killers (good Galaga game), Rattlesnake (street fighting game). New AGA demos are Repugnance,
Roswell, Response, Tear down the Wall and Some Justice. Also a disk with the results of the Amega
Party - Gfx Competiton was uploaded. Here are some new cover- and box scans: A320 Airbus (the game
itself will soon be available here), Big 6- Dizzy Collection CD32, Case of the Cautious Condor CDTV,
Chinese Karate, Euro Soccer '88, Fallen Angel and Hard Drivin'. And here is a last minute update:

22.6.2001 CD32 Games Install Kit for Windows
|
As some emulation sites already posted this news, here's the official annoucement for the Windows
version of my CD32 Games Install Kit: It will work in connection with WinUAE and it will be
available quite soon. The compatibility is very high because every game uses custom patches (just
like in the Amiga version). Additionally you won't have to install the game, you can run it right
from the CD although in some cases some files have to be copied (which need to be patched). CD
audio support is not supported yet but will be added for sure later. The first version of the CD32
Games Install Kit 4.5 (Win32 1.0) can be expected in one week. But currently it will be only
available for owners of the The Best Of Airsoft Softwair Gold Edition CD-ROM.

|
Transitive Technologies Ltd. has developed Dynamite, a unique software technology
that dynamically accelerates software so that any microprocessor (CPU) hardware
achieves maximum performance when running a particular code set. Dynamite can
also be used to translate instructions from one CPU to another. For example,
Dynamite can take ARM compatible instructions and execute them on non-ARM CPUs
with complete transparency to both the system and the user.

21.6.2001 PPC for Prometheus
|
As many people keep asking us questions about the CPU card for Prometheus,
we decided to clarify some things.
1. Matay is not going to produce the PPC card by itself. We will choose among the CPU solutions available at the market (not
necessarily "Amiga native" only). It would take too much time and concern to produce such a card, time we can spend providing
you with other Amiga-specifict products. Why to invent wheel again?
2. The only problem to solve is software support to make the hardware cooperate with our PCI bridge. However, with the help of
AmigaOS4 developers from Amiga Inc. it is not a problem at all. We will cooperate with them to make Prometheus+CPU card combo
100% compatible with the upcoming AmigaOS.
3. We are not limiting our support to one CPU card only. You should view a CPU card expansion the same as - for example -
a graphics card expansion. More than one solution is possible.
4. The details will be announced after we finish talks with the CPU cards manufacturers. As we always state - no promises,
only facts, so please be patient. In meanwhile, you can use Prometheus boards with the existing Amiga CPU cards. The software,
i.e. AmigaOS4, will arrive later this year, so will our hardware to run it on.

19.6.2001 'The Great Eyetech Giveaway'
|
"We need to make more space in our warehouse for the AmigaOne boards and prebuilt
systems - so some things have just got to go. Although (speaking as an honorary
Yorkshireman) it goes against the grain to give 'owt fer nowt' it has to be done!
We are therefore giving the following items away free of charge (and obviously
without warranty or support) on a first-come-first-served basis."

19.6.2001 Special Kickstart show prices by mail order deadline extended until 25th July
|
"As you may have heard on the newsgroups & mailing lists the Kickstart show was a bit of
a disappointment in terms of the turnout with less than 100 paying visitors in total. Next
year they are going to make sure it is moved to avoid conflict with exam revision timetables
and mid term holidays. Keep up the good work guys. The upside was that the 5 people who went
down from Eyetech really were able to give a very personal level of service to those who
visited our stand! Of course it also meant that we did not sell as much as we anticipated,
so we've decided to extend the 'Kickstart Show prices by mail order' offer until the 25th
July or when the stock of special show priced items is exhausted. Note that we are only
able to offer these special prices for orders by phone, fax and email. Stocks of some
products have been exhausted, so please enquire about availability before sending any money."

19.6.2001 Prometheus PCI expansion for Zorro3 Amigas will be in stock by 25th June
|
"We're particularly pleased to have struck a deal with Matay, the Polish makers of
the Prometheus board as it enables A3000/A4000 (both desktop and tower systems) to
gain 4 PCI slots for trading in just one Zorro slot. The board is shipped with 2D
& 3D drivers for VooDoo graphics cards (also in stock), together with drivers
for ethernet and sound cards, and an complete royalty-free SDK. It is an
incredibly well designed and manufactured board, (guaranteed for 5 years) and is
the first PCI expansion board on any Amiga to get Hyperion's seal of approval for
its 3-D support. A PPC add-in card is in the pipeline giving a PPC-based forward
path for those users who want to retain Zorro 3 compatibility in their big-box Amigas."

Fleecy Moss, Amiga Inc: "It was developed by Olaf Barthel, and in OS4.2 will be aimed squarely

18.6.2001 AmigaOne SCSI standards
|
The AmigaOne specification contain an on-board IDE controller, but much of the Amiga
users use SCSI hardware (harddrives, CD drives, scanners).
That's why Amiga Inc.plans to develop a SCSI driver for the "NCR SCSI scripts chip"
for Amiga OS4.x (today, NCR is a subsidiary company of LSI Logic).
An internal document describing the reasons why these chips have been chosen was
published on the AmigaOne mailing list (title link). The same chip was utilized in
diverse Amiga products (e.g. in newer Phase5 acceleration cards).
These chips are to be of first class at Amiga Inc. at this time, but this decision
might change if a better solution would turn out.

16.6.2001 Voodoo Driver Status
|
Thomas Frieden: "We have nearly everything converted to use the FIFO setup now, and as we've
expected, the frame rate is now mostly independent of the resolution. At 800x600, the speed
is exactly the same as in 320x240. Heretic 2 is still playable at 1024x768, although the Voodoo
is beginning to slow down at that resolution. It looks like the Prometheus version will be the
first one to be finished, hopefully next week, with the G-REX and hopefully Mediator drivers
following shortly afterwards. The Prometheus version will be finished first, as the G-REX
prototype setup had a small problem that prevented the FIFO from working, so we moved
development to the Prometheus for the time being. The Voodoo also looks a lot better than
the Permedia (see the attached screenshots). We've moved the development of Warp3D to the
new gcc based StormC 4 now, which in itself already produces very good code, but it also
enabled us to do inline assembly. Through some PPC assembly optimizations, we are now able to
nearly saturate the bus with data, thus reaching nearly the maximum possible speed."
Check out the screenshots about this in the
Features section.

16.6.2001 (New) informations on GREX 4000 and MicroServer
|
René Thol has received some interesting informations from DCE on the G-Rex 4000 board and summarizes:
1. the GREX 4000 is ready, they're waiting only for the boards from the manufacturer.
2. the GREX 4000 replaces the the daughterboard (ISA-, ZIII- and videoslots) on the motherboard and is connected with the port for the CVPPC on the Cyberstorm board.
3. the TV board drivers for the GREX are still in the works and are thus no longer mentioned in the GREX advertising since only finished drivers are advertised there.
4. AGP extensions are not planned. The AGP slots of the AmigaOne will also work only through PCI with the resulting speed. (??????)
5 the planned DCE Microserver will be plugged later in one of the PCI slots and features two SDRAM slots with 133 MHz bus speed. It can be used as busmaster and has access to the entire Amiga hardware. Sadly, a Cyberstorm board already working in the Amiga has still to be used and its processors can not access the SDRAM (buswidth through PCI too narrow). Because of a CPU socket, more current CPUs than the G3/G4 can be used later. Existing PPC applications won't run immediately on the new CPUs (due to addressing and such) but have to be be adapted through (minor) changes in the sourcecode and a special library.

15.6.2001 50% mark in RC5-64 reached
|
"We have reached the 50% mark in RC5-64! In 1331 days we have searched half the keyspace. At yesterday's
rate the entire keyspace will have been searched in another 506 days, which shows that the effort is
progressing much faster than in the first half. Also since the key could be anywhere in the keyspace, not
finding it in the first half basically means we didn't get lucky, but also that chances of finding it are
ever increasing. It could take over a year more (which is progressively getting more unlikely), or it
could take another day.. The Amiga team is still ranked 7th overall out of thousands of teams, well done
team :) Added press release about the halfway mark to the

11.6.2001 Virus Help Denmark Amiga New's

"The xvs.library (External Virus Support
Library) has been updated today. Alex van Niel has decided to stop programming the xvs.package but will
still update VirusChecker when he has the time. Alex got a new job that takes almost all his time. At
this time I got very cold feet... Where would we find a new programmer that know something about
viruses ? Or even worth, should we stop "Virus Help Denmark", without programmers to make antivirus
programs, where would we be ??? And where would YOU BE ??????? So we went out looking for a new
programmer to update the xvs.library. And with Georg Hoermann's approval we offered the code to a
great guy, Jan Erik Olausen (The programmer of VirusExecutor), and he said YES :-)"
(Comment by Jan Andersen, Virus Help Denmark) "If you think that Jan Erik Olausen is doing one
hell of a job, with keeping you Amiga secure for viruses, then send him a little donation. I know that
xvs.library and VirusExecutor is freeware, but Jan has done one hell of a job in the last 6 month, to

Bullets, Slap 'n' Tickle, Bill etc. can be downloaded. In the apps section there are now the Amiga
programs highlights Genesis - The Third Day and Deluxe Music 2.0. Also the Amiga group Wanted Team
cooperated with us: They have now Internet pages on ASO which contain players, Amiga tunes and other
interesting stuff. And of course this update features new coverscans. Finally the Amiga Games Compendium

10.6.2001 Software News
|
The new version (40.5) of the asyncio.library for WarpOS fixes a hopefully a little bug, that caused
some troubles on a few Amigas. "Sorry, the last upload was corrupt. Hope, this time things will work."
Download the archive from here.
Sigbjørn 'Magic CISC' Skjæret missed some batteries and all the shops were closed, so he decided to do a port of Alcuin, an emulator of the
legendary HP48 calculator. Grab the source diffs and MorphOS binary here.
It also requires the original archive with the tools, icons, sources, docs, etc.. from Aminet.
Since the nasty bug causing JS and image decoding crashes in the MorphOS version was squashed just after
releasing 3.3.104, there's a new release. This version should work exactly like the 68k version, just several level of magnitudes faster.
Get it here.
A new version of Microdot2 is also planned. Stay tunned.
Since we couldn't keep up with the fast rate of Fr3dy's ports (AmigaOS, MorphOS) there's now a dedicated homepage for them.
See here.

9.6.2001 New Amiga Version of Tales Of Tamar
|
New version of Amiga client V0.36R1 finally allows
players to directly fight with each other. In the past few weeks, players were able to annex land,
and now some of those who got too little now start to equip armies to get their fair share. Because
land is important for income, resources and power. The first battle were already fought and the
people of Tamar mourn thousands of victims. We can see how borders start to move and notice the
intrigues, insults and blackmails among players. There are prices offered for the heads of certains
Lords and other players are incited to join the battle. From the fact that we are talking about
real humans playing with each other, results a complexity never seen before. It is a thousand times
harder to fool a real human than a simpleton computer player. Only the best and most clever will
truly master the game and raise up the rank list. If some player should finally reach the title of a
emperor, then this is not only a title, but also honor the perfect mastery of politics, mathematics
and strategy. The title is a prove of the intelligence, bravery and reliabilty of the player.
So be warned: the higher a player ranks, the more dangerous it will be to upset him.
Tales of Tamar is the internet based roundgame for Amiga, Atari, Linux/SDL and Windows by Eternity
Entertainment Software.

7.6.2001 Game: Robot Shooter ´Apano Sin´
|
´Apano Sin´ is a classic robot shooter game, developed for ECS machines in 1993. Alfred Knötig
then took over development and distribution and presented the final version in 2000 at the
Neuss Amiga Show. Apano Sin will run on any Amiga model and is available on floppy disk, only.
Since the release of the game ´Apano Sin´ was one year ago and a new edition would not be
profitable, Alfred Knötig decided to sell the copies remaining (incl. wrapping and manual)
a the historical price of only 20DM. Once these copies are sold, the game might vanish to never
be seen again.

ImageFX, FXScan). Note that the LE version on AmiNet is crippled because of license and patent

4.6.2001 Ami Sector One News
|
"Several new companies and individual programmers have permitted us to upload their Amiga
titles on AMI Sector One: Dana Dominiak from Webfoot Technologies granted the permission to
upload all games from her former company called Image Tech: These games are the phantastic
adventure called Dungeon Quest and the board game Kikugi. Although both titles were already
released more than 10 years ago, they have wonderful graphics. Also Patrick J. Simmons allowed
us to offer here his game Quiksilver Pinball which is a wonderful pinball simulation which has
tables split over two screens. Btw: He coded Kikugi too. Besides I contacted Brian Leake from
Namco. He granted the permission to upload his complex game Debut which was formerly published
by Pandora. Finally I got in contact with Stephen Corry who is author of the popular
"Soccer Cards" series for the Amiga. Now you can download his game Soccer Cards US 94. His other
title League Soccer Cards was already online. A big thanks goes to contributors of this update!
Apps: After a long time there are some new additions in the applications section: Colour It is
a colouring book for children. With Crunchersdisk Vol. 1 and Megaboot you can crunch files or
modify bootblocks of Amiga disks. Pumatracker is an interesting early soundtracker. And at last
there is the rest of the LSD Docs Disks (45-65). Of course there are new game soundtracks, too:
Check the Game Music Section for the new additions. Also there are some new coverscans: Iron Lord,
Indiana Jones and the last Crusade CDTV, Loom CDTV, New Zealand Story, Skateball and WEC Le Mans.
Finally I have written a small report about the Commodore CDTV. You can read it here. Watch out
for further updates with Amiga games which are absolutely new on the Internet!"

3.6.2001 GUI for New STRICQ
|
"I have started work on STRICQ+! I only have a few lines of code written, it starts up, creates
the UDP process, prints some debug and exits. [..] Finally, since the GUI will be 100% seperate
from the rest of the program, the GUI can be anything, MUI or whatever. Also, since it is
seperate, this opens up the field for someone else to write the GUI or even more than one person
to write different GUI models. So if someone out there wants to volunteer to write a GUI,
send me an email and we'll discuss the project. If no
one wants to do this, I'll write the GUI myself, and I'm sure you are all aware of how beautiful
my GUIs can look! :-) And, it probably won't be that different from what the current STRICQ
looks like. I'm not planning on more than two or, at most, three days of work a week."
