31.3.2001 Amiga OS 4.0 for PowerPC Announced
Bill Mc Ewen announced that AmigaOS is being fully ported to PowerPC. Amiga OS 4.0 for PPC is being developed by Haage & Partner and Hyperion. Amiga OS 4.0 PPC will require AmigaOne PPC motherboard. A production AmigaOne board was shown by Eyetech. Detailed information expected soon...
Fleecy Moss says: "I should point out that H&P and Hyperion are just two of the contractors being used, and that we are using quite a few others. I should also point out that a lot of the work is being done internally, by Amiga itself. This is represents Amiga taking back ownership and control of the AmigaOS as we develop it forwards to be a key part of our future technology solution.
Haage and Partner have done a good job of looking after it for us over the years, but as we move forwards, it will be brought back in house, allowing us to fully take on our responsibility as owner."

Fleecy writes: "AmigaOS4 will only run on hardware that conforms to the zico specification - currently that is the Eyetech AmigaOne (which also offers full backwards compatibility with AA chipset access applications) and the bPlan AmigaOne, which will run AmigaOS4 apps and older apps which use retargetable coding. We look forwards to other Amiga hardware companies developing zico based solutions and are actively talking to them."

31.3.2001 AMIGA works with SHARP to develop content for ZAURUS
ST. LOUIS, MO, March 30, 2001 - Amiga Incorporated, a pioneer in the development of multi-media and content, today announced a long-term partnership with Sharp Corporation, a worldwide developer of innovative products and core technologies in electronics, in which Amiga will develop content for next-generation Sharp handheld computing devices.
In March, Sharp announced its plans to market the Zaurus PDA in the United States and Europe as one of the world's first Linux-based handheld device. The Linux operating system is gaining wider acceptance in the computer server market because its underlying code is freely distributed on the Internet. Easily adaptable for different hardware devices, the Sharp handheld will be able to run software written in Sun Microsystems' versatile Java software language that supports different operating systems.
In this partnership, Amiga announced that its developer community would either develop new content or adapt existing content for PDA applications, using their reputation for innovation and leadership in gaming, 2D, 3D, animation, video, and music applications. Amiga-developed content can be downloaded directly through wireless networks, using desktop computers, or ported directly into the new device.

31.3.2001 Quick report from Bill McEwen's speech
At the Amiga 2001 show in St. Louis, Amiga announced the future of the Amiga platform:

All new Sharp Zaurus handhelds will ship with the Amiga DE.

Psion will ship in about 2 months with the Amiga DE.

Amiga DE runs on the Pocket PC. Just buy the memory module and plug it in, when available.

Classic Amiga OS is being ported to PPC (Amiga OS 4.0). AmigaDE will not be released as a desktop solution for the AmigaOne computer, but will instead be coupled with and folded into future versions of the Amiga OS (probably OS4.2).

Eyetech is releasing their proprietary Amiga One spec.

Amiga One may ship in time for AmiWest.

31.3.2001 Blittersoft Voodoo procurement problems
One of the members on Amiga-Mediator ML posted a email he got from Blittersoft telling of their procurement problems with Ingram Micro in getting Voodoo3 cards:
"In order to maintain the price, we have had to source a supplier in Germany. Our usual supplier was Ingram Micro, who I am sure you will know are a huge UK concern. Unfortunately, their stock of 350+ boards have been placed on hold, and they will still not release any. Their reason is that Voodoo III is considered an obsolete part since the buyout from nVidea, and whilst there is still a demand, the powers that be have withdrawn it. Despite assurances that they would have this sorted, it still has not been so we have a shipment from Germany in transit." Read the complete post here.

30.3.2001 New Song by Psyria
Psyria is a music project which produces songs exclusively with the AMIGA. After about seven weeks, the Psyria homepage was updated.
Dennis Lohr: "First of all, a new song (MP3) is available for download in top quality. The song 'Sleppy Miriam' was transformed by request of the original composer "Techno Overdose" into a club mix. The original song is available at Techno Overdose.
Further, I am negotiating with my "old" record company again. Soon, there will be a new contract. The release of the first record was (if all goes well) aimed for summer 2001 on "Masonic Records distributed by Virgin Europe". (Keep your fingers crossed :-))
Also, I'd like to remind of the other songs which are available for download, as well as the forum and guestbook. Everybody can post his comments on the songs, the homepage and anything else there."

30.3.2001 Elbox points out whats wrong with G-Rex
Darek Dulian: "We have received a number of inquiries about whether the SharkPPC G3/G4 card could be used in the G-REX busboard. Here is the response to clear up these doubts:
"Complete lack of support for the busmastering (DMA) between PCI slots (the lines controlling busmastering - GNT#, REQ# are not physically connected to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th G-REX slot). This makes the operation of PCI cards impossible..."
"Lack of a parity control system (the PAR parity line is not physically connected to the control logics of the busboard)."
"Reduction of the interruption system from 4 to 1 - the interruption lines (INTB#, INTC#, INTD#) are not physically connected to PCI slots."
"We are not in the habit of commenting devices or software, but here we make an exception, as the level of misinformation in the ML like this one reached its critical level." -- "I am really embarrassed to read letters from people who -- having no idea about hardware -- give their opinions on various products or designs."

29.3.2001 "Prometheus" is not a fake
A mailinglist has been setup on YahooGroups for the Prometheus. You can Join Here!

Photo of Prometheus PCI Board

Nicolas Mendoza, the creator and editor at polarBoing did a mini-interview on IRC with one of the Matay guys about the Prometheus just now.

Grzegorz "Krashan" Kraszewski: "PCI cards will not just "hang on their slots". There will be a bracket includer to screw them on it." - "Prometheus can be much faster than this, but is limited by Buster design. For example on A3200 card (EC030/25) it achieves about 7100 kB/s."

Grzegorz Juraszek, Matay: "Matay's been selling Amiga software in Poland for a year. This is NO fake or joke, the boards are very real and will sell in May. Look at the photo, does it look like a piece of render? ;)" You say everybody does a PCI solution now. So why so many people are not satisfied yet? The project started LONG BEFORE Elbox annouced their PCI board. It's no piece of cake to design and make such board. We did not spoof until the cards became real. No promises, no yet-to-be-released surprises. Isn't it the better way?" - "It ALSO fits the desktop case without the lit. And no card is swinging in the air, there are holders to, echm... hold ;) them. And the extension cords to attach them to rear panels. Everything is explained at our site in plain (I hope so ;) English. We will soon photo it inside an Amiga with the holders for those that prefer seeing as believing." - "Would you like us to wait "for another nine months" like Petro T. said at Amiga Show'98? ;-) I joking, at April 1st or any other day." - "Too early to speculate on that. Prometheus will hit the shops in May, so currency rates we strictly depend on can change. About 550 DM for now, but do not take it as a promise. We don't like promises, we've had too many of them."

Ben Yoris, Hyperion Entertainment: "This is no fake. This product exists and has been tested. Hyperion is in relation with Matay for a while. As for the fitting in an A4000D or A3000D, please read the Matay website where it is explained."

25.3.2001 Matrox a bit behind currently due to absence of T&L...
Hans-Jörg Frieden, Warp3D group, posted on the amigaone ML about Matrox cards: "They are not "crap". They deliver solid performance, although they don't put their stress on 3D gaming with the G450. They don't throw around buzzwords like most of the competition, and they are a bit behind currently due to the absence of T&L which NVidia and ATI already have, but then, the G450 wasn't really more than the G400 MAX plus DDR and higher clocks. [..] From a speed point, they loose against NVidia, but that's no surprise. I don't see the point, however, in this whole race since most of the time the differences are only slight."

Mr. Fleecy Moss, Vice President of Product Development for AmigaInc. posted on the same list: "We chose them because whilst they don't have the highest fill rates, their attitude is that there is a lot more you can do - image quality, bump mapping etc, and they have a lot of new stuff planned. [..] You can bet on it - I can't wait for games with controls and monitoring on 1 screen and gameplay on another."

'The question is who will write the games supporting dualmonitor solutions...
BTW I prefer one fast 1600x1200 mode with T&L, because another question is how many people got two monitors just because of gaming?' [ExiE]

HTMLmails are not just looking better than ordinary ones, they also have the "advantage" of giving the sender the possibility to watch the behaviour of the recipient (means YOU) in some cases. The only way to avoid this kind of snooping is not to load down pictures from these internetservices and to disable the JavaScript interpretation of the browser. Therefore HTMLread gives you the option not to load down pictures from defined Internet adresses. The only restriction is that HTMLread has to know the adresses of Internet-services which want to send these bad agents to your computer. For that, HTMLread uses a database in which are stored all the well-known of these adresses.

24.3.2001 AmigaOne will support Matrox G450 and 3Dfx Voodoo3
Mr. Fleecy Moss, Vice President of Product Development for AmigaInc. posted on the amigaone ML over the subject of what graphic cards AmigaOne will support: "It is the next generation card that Matrox develop. However, all that means is that for Amiga products, that is the only card we will support WHEN it comes out, and we cannot at this time reveal that information. The G450 will be supported, and I believe Eyetech have arranged for the V3 to also be supported."

Mr. Moss may be referring to Mr. Alan M Redhouse, Managing Director Eyetech Group Ltd, sublicensing agreement with DCE Computer Service for driver technology for Voodoo3. Mr. Alan M Redhouse says "I am delighted that we have been able to come to this arrangement with DCE, and via them with VFD to bring the unrestricted capability of VFD's VooDoo drivers..." - You can read the complete DCE Computer Service and Eyetech Group Ltd Voodoo3 press release here.

24.3.2001 StarGATE Newsletter 03/2001-1
The brand new, entirely reworked website of StarGATE Software was finished and put online and can be accessed at http://www.stargate-software.de/. The essential changes in very short and quickly:
1. Entirely new (hopefully better) design.
2. Easier to use and navigate.
3. Main focus of the site is now exclusively the "Software" area, both for Classic Amigas and the new AmigaDE and for Java.
4. The pages have been entirely translated into English language. 5. StarGATE now has it's own domain.
As a matter of course some software products are available, too. Among those the initial AmigaDE programms by StarGATE. I hope you will like the new pages. Suggestions, critism, enhancement proposals, and hints of course are always welcome.
Finally some words about the software section in general: Since it is measurable that the Classic Amiga has had it's time and the new AmigaDE or AmigaOne are moving forward new developments mainly will be for the AmigaDE.

24.3.2001 X-CELLENCE News
1. Changes in staffing level:
'Our team now exists of 10 staffers. Rico Pook took over the web design for us and we would like to cordially welcome him on this occasion.'

2. Domain:
'X-CELLENCE at last could take their domain and is reachable under http://www.x-cellence.de, now.'

3. Cooperative team management:
'We separated X-CELLENCE into divisions. Each of the divisions is working on their project independent from the other teams. This allows maximum of flexibility which is especially advantageous in the shrinking Amiga market.'

4. Wanted...
'Due to division of X-CELLENCE we are facing a staffing problem. We still are wanting graphicians and programmers. For those we would prefer people out of the Amiga community. Graphicians should be familiar with 2D/3D tools on AMIGA and/or PC. They would work in the divisions "GOLD" and "EAST".I.e.: "SCR2K" (FunRacer) and "NYN" (3D ActionAdventure Shooter). We are exclusively wanting programmers for the AmigaDE. The Classic market is no longer taken into account by us.'

24.3.2001 Status Update for WinUAE 0.8.16

2. Now have virtual Picasso96 screens (Bernd Roesch)
3. Merged in many changes from 0.8.16 core UAE tree (Bernd Schmidt). Note: This breaks AGA sprites completely.
4. Investigating DirectSound vs. WaveOut APIs for audio output, due to SB-Live! issues.
5. Support for multiple mice being added, thanks to patches from Andreas.
6. Fixed old floppy-disk writing bugs (Toni Wilen).

10. MIDI input support (Bernd Roesch)

22.3.2001 Amiga freeCD: VideoTracker 2.0
Patrick Henz: "With VideoTracker 2.0 you can make a videoclip around a ProTracker or OctaMED module. You can also let images react to your CD-player, or other audio-input, with use of extra hardware. You can use pictures, brushes, animations, animation-brushes, palettes, colorcycle, routines (like Plasma, Rotate/Magnify), texts, objects, vectorobjects, amigafonts, karafonts, landscapes, colorsets. When the video is finished, you can save the module and video data as a "Vidule". A vidule is a crunchable executable file which plays the module and the video. You can make a small intro or a big house-demo. You also can use VideoTracker with a GenLock and, for example, make professional movie-titles with colorfonts.
When the module plays a sample, VideoTracker shows an "effect" on screen. This effect can be a picture, brush, anim, routine, etcetra. or a combination of these. You can edit for each of the 128 song-positions the 31 samples and use up to 256 effects in a video. All the explained effects are used in the example-videos.
VideoTracker works on PAL and NTSC Amigas. The programm was originally released in 1994 as sharware (50 US-Dollar), it is still copyrighted by Peter can Campen, but you can copy it for free. Because of the age of the programm, it may run unstable on newer High-End-Amigas.
freeCD means that everybody is allowed to copy this cd and also to give it away. The cd is available for 2,50 Euro."

22.3.2001 Battle Duel - CD-ROM-Edition
Patrick Henz: "We got the idea for BattleDuel when we played 'Artillery Duel' on the C-64. After some hours of playing we got annoyed by some small bugs and other insufficincies. Soon we agreed to program an Amiga version.
There are already some games of this type on the Amiga but they mostly lack good graphics and game play. We wanted the game to be very near to the orginal. Furthermore we got many ideas about improvements and options that had to be build in :-)
BattleDuel can be played with up to 8 players, offers computer opponents with selectable difficulty, has 5 play modes: normal duel-mode, 2 tournament-modes, conquer mode and a training mode, has a team mode: two teams (each with two players) can play against each other, has a network mode: games with nullmodem, modem, parnet/pronet and TCP/IP are possible, is programmed completely system friendly, is multitasking friendly, adjusts to ECS, AGA and graphicboards automatically (only 1 program), has nice graphics and sound-effects and has a nice gadtools interface.
Requirements: Kickstart2.04 or higher and at least 1 MByte chip memory. English, German, Italian and Norwegian version included.
freeCD means that everybody is allowed to copy this cd and also to give it away. This freeCD is availabe for 2,50 Euro."

21.3.2001 AutoPDF creates PDF files using Ghostscript automatically
Martina Kramer: "Macintosh has a program called Distiller. This program converts postscript files in a certain source directory to PDF files in an output directory. We (Amiga) have Ghostscript to create PDF files. AutoPDF uses Ghostscript to convert postscript files into PDF files. The nice thing about AutoPDF is that it will monitor a given directory untill files (or just one) are copied into it, then it will convert the file to a PDF file placing it (and the original file) into a given destination directory. Just run AutoPDF in the background and it will convert any postscript file placed in the source directory automatically. However, since creating a PDF file with Ghostscript eats up most of your processor time, conversion will only start after 'activating' the AutoPDF window.
The program has been uploaded to Aminet, but if you want to try it NOW... Hope it is as helpfull for you as it is for us..."

The converter is built around a pic16C84/pic16F84 microcontroller. It uses very few external components (4 resistors and 2 capacitors) and is therefore easy to build. The converter translates the PS/2 protocol into a fully emulated Amiga mouse. This means that the mouse works from the moment you switch on the computer. There is no need for special software running on the Amiga. The converter works with all PS/2 complient mice. (so far i've tested 2 logitech mice, one of which was an USB-type with an USB to PS/2 converter)" The hardware of the project is therefore finished and the author is looking for help with software support of the scroll wheel. The NetBSD/Amiga - IOBlix-Zbus driver was changed in a way that the quartz frequency is changeable via the kernel variable _iobzclock (with binpatch and reboot) or via the kernel option IOBZCLOCK.
Newer IOBlix cards use a 22.1184MHz quartz that allows more standard baud rates, older ones on the other hand use a 24MHz quartz. Owners of a 24MHz quartz need to set _iobzclock or IOBZCLOCK to 24000000.

12.3.2001 Elbox knows about 1st batch of buggy '8MB defective' Mediators
A number of people have complained on the Amiga-Mediator ML that they get 'vertical line' trashing on the screen when they have their Mediator (jumper) in 8MB mode. Elbox have given reasons like "This is all due to incorrect setting of the "memory window" jumper in your hardware configuration." - First theory was that it was some type of Elbox P96 driver bitmap alignment problem. Looks like this is not the case... but a bad batch of Mediators.
Mr. Lindhorst posted on the Amiga-Mediator ML that he wrote a patch to test the bitmap alignment theory, the patch had "no effects at all". Here is the problem: "To put it in a nutshell, the upper 4MB of the 8MB memory chunk are, well, buggy. Every 4th byte of this memory range has one special bit set after a write access no matter what the data written originally was." Mr. Lindhorst goes on to say: "I have contacted ELBOX some days ago asking for a public clarification. More importantly they say that ONLY THE FIRST BATCH (sold by them till 13th dec) of the Mediator1200 is supposed to be affected."

MorphOS News CygnusEd Professional v4.21(a) - small update to the 4.21 PPC-MorphOS port released before. Fixes the problem with crashing when the HELP button was pushed.
You need a properly installed MorphOS release as well as the original CygnusED 4 CDROM to install the PowerPC port, the 68k version of the program won't be modified. After installation you can still use the 68k version of CygnusEd if you plan to install it on the same partition. The updated ed frontend automatically detects if it's run under MorphOS or AmigaOS and uses the proper CygnusEd main binary. Please note that you need the original CygnusEd4 CDROM to apply this patch/ppc update.

11.3.2001 Warp3D status for G-Rex & Mediator
Thomas Frieden: "Ok, here's the situation: As soon as the drivers are finished, they'll be released. "Finished" in this respect means the features of Warp3D V4 are implemented (they are 99% finished), the support for G-REX is in it (it is), and the support for Mediator is in it (started, but not finished yet). For the G-REX, there should be no problem at all, Mediator users may have troubles because of the limitation of the current P96 drivers (they only use 8MB, IIRC). Right now, the driver is not finished. The problem is that the documentation of the Voodoo 3 is very vague, and at times wrong, when discussing the command FIFO. Right now, we are using direct register access. Although this works, there's a major drawback: There is a small buffer that can take up to 32 registers, after that, the buffer is closed until the current primitive is rendered. 15 registers are needed per triangle (stripped, separate, it's even worse). So after just one or two triangles, the chip shuts drawing operation. This has the effect that the drawing speed decreases with growing resolution. Currently, the performance delivered by the Voodoo 3 is very bad (it's still much better than the Permedia 2, but not what can be reached), especially at high resolutions. So we would like to take our time to get the drivers to work flawlessly. Regarding the "simultaneous" release: We will not delay the release "unduly" just becuase we have problems with one board or the other. But, and I think everybody should be able to understand this, we of the Warp3D team are somehow caught up between the front lines. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. I would like to apologize if I misworded something, english is not my native language after all."

The first is that the PPC board of our leading computer is defective and there are some problems with the fixing/replaceing of it. The second thing is that Roman is now in the armee for 15 weekes. 7.3.2001 Voodoo3 Performance on AmigaOne Board
Thomas Frieden via AmigaOne ML: "Obvioulsy, most people highly underestimate the Voodoo 3. It's a graphics board that's still up to date. The fill rate is enough for 1024x768 at full speed. The only real drawback at the moment is the lack of 32 bit rendering. Some tests on some PC sites indicate that it will deliver a performance very close to for example Voodoo 4."
"You should also keep in mind that on the Amiga, we have a very short data path from the application to the hardware. On Windows, you have to go through all of DirectX. Just compare the performance of something like Unreal Tournament's DirectX vs. Glide renderer: Glide is similar to Warp3D, it has a short data path, and the performance speaks for itself. Now project that to the AmigaOne: A high-power CPU that's on par with current x86 chips (and the G4 is on par with them), together with a Voodoo 3 and nearly direct access of the application to the hardware, that's a very powerful combination that can literally run rings around some of the PC hardware out there."

6.3.2001 No time, hardware & motivation for Mediator Warp3D ViRGE
Both Hans-Jörg & Thomas Frieden, 2/3 of the Warp3D group posted on the Amiga-Mediator ML about the status of the Mediator Warp3D ViRGE driver and how the ViRGE (CyberVision64/3D) Warp3D driver "was written without bank switching in mind", "The driver would also need a general overhaul".

Hans-Joerg: "Ahem, yes, a driver :-) Sorry, the current ViRGE driver will only work with the CV64/3D. This is because of the fact that it was written without bank switching in mind. It should be relatively easy to convert it to a PCI driver, but, as Robert already pointed out, we have neither the hardware nor the time (and to be honest, no motivation for that either :-). The ViRGE isn't easy to program, since it doesn't have a setup stage like every chip since Voodoo 2. Also, we have add a heapload of stuff to overcome a few limitations of the chip - although it can do 256x256 textures (I think it even did 512x512), it can't do perspective mapping with more than 128x128, so triangles are subdivided on-the-fly. The driver would also need a general overhaul, as well as adaption to Warp3D v4."

Thomas: "Another problem would be that the current Mediator drivers are CGX V3, if I'm not mistaken. Warp3D will not run with CGX V3. Before you cry out that there is a V3 driver, let me explain: The CV64/3D had a special memory layout. If you set the MULTIMEDIAMEM tooltype, it would reserve the last 1 MB of it's memory for use as video overlay. In Warp3D, we use this 1 MB area as texture memory. When a Z-Buffer is needed, it's allocated in front of that area, which is a cruel hack. So, you see, the Warp3D driver for CGX 3 depends 100 % on the CV3D's memory layout. Without a Picasso 96 or CGX V4 driver, or at least a CGX 3 driver that can do bitmap caching, the chances for a decent CGX 3 support are slim. There must be a way to allocate textures and auxiliary buffers."

5.3.2001 Amiga Aktuell's Interview with BPlan (Pegasos PPC)
Amiga Aktuell made an interview with Thomas Knabel from bplan GmBH.(in German)
Hightlights from the interview:
- Bplan the GmbH is not a successor company of the former phase 5. Also the postal addresses are identical in no way, as you can see easily on our web page. The original idea to take over sections of the former Phase5-Ressourcen (also the premises) could not to be taken place in consequence of the insolvency procedure as planned.
- The planned sales start is Q3/2001.
- The price of a complete system (inclusive HD/DVD/RAM/Mouse/Keyboard) is within the range of 1000 EUR.
- There was already a correspondence with Amiga Inc.
- Sections of the MorphOS team and the bplan staff are identical. As a most well-known " MorphOS" personality I can call you here Ralph Schmidt.

5.3.2001 One more time... No Voodoo4/5 docs, no Warp3D drivers
Hans-Jörg Frieden, one of the three Warp3D authors posted again on the Amiga-Mediator ML on the subject Voodoo Warp3D driver:
"Will Warp3D support the VooDoo4 card? (3D): "Not currently, since there is no public documentation available. I had a look at the H5 glide stuff, but that's a mess (anyone who wants to see programmers arguing over the right way to do something in C comments should check it out :-). No docs - no support. I'm afraid it is this way. This could change once the docs are available, but who knows if there will still be Voodoo's available by that time..."

Does the Voodoo4 have a "VooDoo3 fallback mode"?: "Not at all. They're as different as they can be. Basically the H5 engine (which is the VSA-100 chip on the Voodoo 4 and 5) is radically different from H3 (Banshee) or H4 (Avenger aka Voodoo 3). Evil pitfall: H3 is Banshee, H4 is Voodoo 3, H5 is VSA-100/Voodoo 4 or 5 :-)"

4.3.2001 A body without a head is just stomach and muscles.
Mr. Fleecy Moss, Vice President of Product Development for AmigaInc. posted on the amigaone ML over the subject of Zico (no, not the real orginal Zico) to A1 in less then 3 months and the direction of things.

"I wasn't talking about taking charge of the community - that is patently ridiculous. I have always been a firm believer in the trinity of owner, developer, user, and that is what makes the community. What I mean is that Amiga Inc is now back in charge of being the owner. In the last five years there has really been no forward direction, no strategy, no path, which is why the developers such as H&P,Phase 5, AROS, UAE etc stepped in to provide alternatives. Amiga Inc, as the owner, is now back to doing what an owner should do - we started with the Zico, and less than 3 months later, we are well on are way to having the A1. At St Louis, more of this direction will be explained. As we have seen in the last five years, a body without a head is just stomach and muscles. Thrashing about, tearing itself apart and going hungry."

4.3.2001 Voodoo 3 Warp3D drivers info (again)
Hans-Jörg Frieden posted on the Amiga-Mediator ML: "Rest assured that there *will* be full Voodoo 3 support. The problem is that it takes time, which is at the moment rather limited. [..] Of course, it is in Hyperion's best interest that Warp3D drivers for the Voodoo/Mediator do come out. But as I said, there is little time right now, and the installed user base of BVisionPPC/CVisionPPC owners is far greater (yet :-). Also, our customers have the right to finally get Shogo... [..] Also, note again that Hyperion and Warp3D are different parties..."

"Yes, we are working on it. In fact, the driver is already advanced enough to play any Warp3D supporting game with a few drawbacks (I still didn't get around to fix the fogging, seems my tables are wrong, but I did have more pressing things to do)."

"Yes, we have a G-REX, as well as a Mediator, and we'll release the driver for both of them simultaneously if possible (the Mediator driver requires slightly more work due to bank switching)."

"AGP support for the Voodoo 3 is a no-brainer, since there is virtually no difference :-) There are essentially only two things that the AGP version can do that are not available in the PCI version: Host memory AGP transfers, and Command Fifo in AGP space."

Mediator driver bank switching: "Yes, that's the catch, and that's the reason why we're primarily working with the G-REX (plus the fact that I've got an A4000). The bank switching routine is 68k, so there is a context switch involved which requires a bit of cleverness to avoid..."

2.3.2001 700MHz G3 PowerPC
IBM has begun sampling a revised PowerPC 750CX, the G3-class processor. The 750CXe primarily adds support for bus speeds of 133MHz. However, it does pave the way for the 700MHz version of the chip, due next May. It also uses copper wiring to reduce the part's power consumption. According to Big Blue, the 400Mz 750CXe draws 3.5W, down from the 400MHz 750CX's 4W.
By then, the 400, 500 and 600MHz parts will be shipping in volume. IBM said it expects to ramp up production in April.
Fabbed at 0.18 micron, the 750CXe incorporates 256KB of on-die L2 cache, which not only improves performance - data and program instructions in the cache can be retrieved at the same speed at which the chip's core runs - but saves Apple the cost of ading an external L2 cache module. A small saving, but not to be dismissed.
The 750CXe is priced at $57, $93.75 and $143.75, for the 400, 500 and 600MHz parts, respectively. That's in batches of 10,000.

2.3.2001 Call for Warp3D programmer for ViRGE in Mediator!
Hans-Jörg Frieden posted on the Amiga-Mediator ML on the subject of doing Warp3D driver and a call out for a someone to maintain the ViRGE driver:
"Although my brother already wrote an appropriate reply, I would really like you to elaborate on what you mean by this. We have stated multiple times in the past that we are open to people that would like to write their own Warp3D drivers. There is no need to make something 'work in BVision emulation mode or so', since the drivers are modular by design. How would you make something like that work anyway?
Having said this, I want to repeat the call for a maintainer of the ViRGE driver. Due to lack of time and hardware, we cannot continue the driver, but if someone with a Mediator/ViRGE combination wants to take over, please contact my privately."
