27.10.99 Does Open Sourcing AmigaOS solve our situation?
We can hear some voices requesting AmigaOS to become Open Source. Will it bring back AmigaOS to its glory? Will it bring AmigaOS to modern hardware? Will it attract more developers and bring more applications? Looking to experience of Linux, everything seems to be trivial, but it seems there could be some more issues involved, making AmigaOS becoming open sourced inachievable. Read some comments from Olaf Barthel, member of OS 3.5 development team here.

27.10.99 Update on Delfina card availability
Delfina Plus is currently not available. Some cards have been shipped, but most orders can't be filled until a problem in hardware has been resolved. Either manufacturer has trouble with quality or there is a bug we have not found in most of the cards made so far. Bottom line is that until the troublemaker is eliminated we will not make any new cards at such an unbearable defect rate.
We sincerely apologize all our customers waiting anxiously for their boards. Right now there are only Delfina1200 boards to offer, along with AudioLab software. We hoped to fix the problem much sooner and fill the orders, but that is no excuse for not speaking out earlier.

22.10.99 Future Photogenics Versions
Paul Nolan: "After working for several weeks on my abstraction layer, Photogenics now runs under Linux! It will take a bit more work before a demo version will be ready, but everything is progressing smoothly. Internally, Photogenics is based on my Ng user interface toolkit, and avoids calling any OS specific functions. Ng itself sits on top of a small OS abstraction layer, which either maps directly to AmigaOS functions, or uses Posix for thread related functions, and Xlib for display. With this abstraction layer in place, Photogenics will soon become platform agnostic. With 99.9% of the Photogenics source code remaining unchanged across ports, no platform will get left behind when it comes to new versions. An Amiga NG version should not be a problem, and QNX aficionados will be pleased to know that Photogenics will port over with only trivial changes. screenshot
In summary, there's a fluffy penguin on my shelf, but I'm not abandoning the Amiga. In fact, I am securing its future on the Amiga as the source code remains practically identical no matter what platform its running on.

Martin Blom, AHI developer: "Some remarks regarding the last beta release. If AHI complains about not finding ppc.library >v46.26, don't worry. You only need v46.24 or greater.
Not that it matters. I just found out why the PowerUp version locks up now and then. It turned out that I had misunderstood how to use some stuff in ppc.library. Unfortunately, this could lead to that I have to ditch the PowerUp version altogether. So don't use the PowerUp version; it's broken by design."

A beta version of ImageManager.library can be downloaded. The primary goal of this library (where datatypes failed) was to provide incremental rendering of the decoded image, allow an arbitrary source (such as a network socket) and to allow the user of the decoding system to manipulate the image, before any quantization take place, such as scaling.

19.10.99 GTI Offer No-Risk Distribution for Amiga Companies
Many potential Amiga producers are put off by the risks involved in product distribution, but GTI Grenville Trading International GmbH now makes the following offer to manufacturers of Amiga products worldwide: "We will stock your Amiga products on a turnkey basis ! This basically means that we are prepared to list and sell Amiga products on your behalf to our network of Amiga dealers on an international basis. Under this scheme, we are willing to price products according to manufacturers preferences, and remit proceeds of sales minus an agreed commission fee back to manufacturers on a regular basis. We offer producers the possibility of reaching a large number of Amiga dealers with the minimum of paperwork and fuss. We are happy to list Amiga products and sell on your behalf without ANY minimum quantity - thus enabling even specialised products to obtain an international listing and succeed by their own quality. This scheme is particularly suited to North American manufacturers looking for increased sales of their products to the European Amiga trade and thereby to European Amiga users." For more details, contact Richard Small, Managing Director.

11.10.99 Swedish e-zine GlädjeStickan is down temporarily
The editorial staff at GlädjeStickan: "We have some bad news for the readers of the Swedish e-zine GlädjeStickan. During this weekend, when GlädjeStickan #5 was going through the final touch before release, our computer system crashed. It happened when while browsing the web for game news. The recently released web browser crashed the computer when entering a web page. Unfortunaly the harddrive collapsed and as of now no, what so ever, data has been recovered. This means, amongst other things, that all email adresses to our subscribers are gone. All articles, new as well as old, are gone. The only thing that is left of GlädjeStickan is the existing web page at www.amigaspel.just.nu. This web page is the first thing we will try to re-create, along with the email adress. But don't expect anything before the end of October. When we have updated the web page and re-astablished the email adress we will start to take on new subscriptons. But not until then, please. We hope that You as our subscriber will have patience with this unfortunate incidence and we promise to get back on line as quickly as possible.

3.10.99 SoundProbe Future
The final curtain looks set to fall on the Amiga Soundprobe. Further work on the Amiga version seems more and more unlikely as time passes. Whilst Soundprobe has become a popular editor, the Amiga user base just isn't capable of supporting future developments. The only hope now is that the PC version can be ported back to the Amiga, but by the time this happens (year or so), the Amiga will be even further behind, possibly making it impossible to port.
Authors will still try and support the Amiga version, so if you have any real problems (bugs), let them know, but you may need to be patient...
