31.10.2k CS&E not completely gone
|
As David Connolly, director of CS&E, announced, CS&E England has left the Amiga market. After long discussions,
David Connolly has decided to hand over the Amiga part of CS&E to the newly appointed sales director, Dirk Harlaar.
Based in Germany, this branch of CS&E will focus on games distribution for the Amiga as well as the PC. The
forhtcoming educational software "Cosmos Fun Class" is at this time being translated into German and Dutch, in order to
reach a wider audience. After the recent news that Dirk Harlaar would manage the German branch of CS&E, Dirk Harlaar
and David Connolly decided that Dirk would become the new managing director of Crystal Software and Entertainment (CS&E)
overall. While business strategy is still at a beginning stage, CS&E "under" Dirk Harlaar will focus on the Amiga Games
market, whereas David Connolly will continue with the pc games based www.pc-software.com.

30.10.2k Elbox comments on AmigaONE 1200/4000
|
A few days ago, Amiga Inc. proposed the direction, in which the Amiga Classic computer line should evolve.
This direction assumes the necessity of equipping Amiga Classic computers with PCI-standard slots, the G3
or G4 processor with fast SDRAM memory and a slot for a the Next Generation MATROX graphic card.
In order to fully use the new AmigaDE system, Amiga Classic must be fitted with several basic pieces of
equipment. The AmigaONE 1200 idea assumes connection of this hardware directly to the CPU expansion slot
in Amiga 1200. Elbox: "We are really glad to inform all the owners of Amiga Classic computers that this
is exactly the way, for which Elbox was the pathfinder in their designing and marketing of the MEDIATOR
PCI 1200 busboard." Read more

28.10.2k Farewell From CS&E (Again)
|
David Connolly: "Dear friends, maintaining a commercial business in the Amiga market has become increasingly difficult.
I don't just mean in terms of the poor sales, but in terms of maintaining professional communication and business
relationships. I don't feel I am able to offer a truly professional service for the Amiga as I have failed on both
these counts. I have made inproper comments on mailing lists and failed to attract developers to sign for CS&E.
As I have made the announcement before that CS&E would leave the classic Amiga but come back for the next generation,
it is with regret that I have to say this time the company is leaving the Amiga to concentrate on the PC development.
Amiga Survivor will be continuing as a non-profit making magazine through the editorial staff but CS&E will continue to
lend a hand in taking orders. I wish the Amiga all the best and will be keeping a very close eye on all the developments
as an eager customer."

announcement that Amiga is opening 10% of the company up to investment from Amiga users. This was a huge announcement
in itself and added to the jubilation of the crowd. During his speech Bill said he is not the saviour of the Amiga,
we are. This was a great day for our Amiga. Many of the Linux users were very excited about this "closed source" news
too :-) The speech was so well received that Amiga user, Rick Hammond said to Bill, "Thank you, this has changed my
life. I'm back with Amiga again."

Another new version of AmiDog's Movie Player 2 - AMP 2 pre6
has been released. This releases adds seeking in MPEG system (audio and video) streams.
Since the prefs format has changed, you need to delete any AMP.cfg file before using this version.
The problem with "BestModeID failed" is now gone and AMP should happily display any sized MPEG on any sized screen.
Audio playback will now not start until the video has been properly initialized. The audio filter will now be turned
off by default, an option has been added to turn it on. Fixed a bug causing the last few seconds of MPEGs not to be
played. Optimized the MPEG audio decoder a little (4%). Changed the 8bit dithered display to use 256 instead of
224 colors. Reduced the number of contextswitches resulting in a noticable speed increase.
After long time there is new StrICQ v0.1728 - ICQ clone with MUI GUI.
This version should work somewhat better with ICQ2000. Although it does have a tendancy to crash the ICQ2000 client during chat initialization.

19.10.2k Dreamworlds Development is Looking for One More Musician
|
Stefan Schulze: "Because Audun Evensen (our musician up to now) does not have enough time anymore we have decided to engage another musician.
She/He should get along with each possible kind of music, work on time, be well up in editing samples and of course should be interested in games.
Having a sampler, good hardware (PPC) and knowledge in English are advantageous but not necessary. Of course you are participated in proceeds from
the sales. First (and urgent) music for Crossfire II is needed. Here is Techno or something like that sufficient. It`s all right if different kinds
of music are used provided that it fits to hard action. :) I prefer stirring classical music but it is hard to handle with the computer. Furthermore
some intermediate progression have to set to music (own format). After finishing CF2 (if a further co-operation is desired) we need right music
(medieval, atmospheric, classical, sometimes rock music) instead of Techno for our next game called "Between The Lines", a real time. Those ones who
are interested in (or have any questions) please mail to stefan@dreamworlds.de with a demo work or state
an internetaddress where I can find such a sample. A few information about yourself and your hardware configuration would be useful."

17.10.2k ELBOX: Insider Report
|
In July 2000, ELBOX Computer and Frank Mariak (VFD) negotiated and agreed upon writing drivers for MEDIATOR PCI busboard.
Frank Mariak agreed to write the software with hardware and technical documentation provided to him by ELBOX Computer as
requested by him. He had never asked for cash reimbursement and never asked for making cash-based contract.
Frank Mariak was to write drivers dedicated for ELBOX hardware, to the order of ELBOX, based on an agreement between ELBOX
and himself. Frank Mariak's long-term benefit was spreading and popularising his commercial product: CGX4.
Ultimately, Frank Mariak sold rights to these drivers in exclusive form to a third party, who are not affiliated with ELBOX
Computer in any way. This transaction, with the following use of confidential ELBOX documentation within third-party
agreements is clear-cut breach of commercial law in any country in the world.
This step was thought to block developing highly-demanded software for Amiga computers.
ELBOX Computer decided to clear this situation up in the following report. The last part of the report announces software
solutions to make good the damage caused by Frank Mariak's decisions. Read more.

16.10.2k Thomas Dellert (DCE) Speaks About G-Rex PCI
|
Thomas Dellert: "Basically the G-Rex is an old p5 delevopment running for about 2 years in Frank Mariaks Amigas as PCI-Adapter.
It was especially designed for the p5 PPC cards. Voodoo3 is working 100% already. German distributor Vesalia was forced by
Elbox to take all G-Rex details off their website else Elbox would no longer supply products. Therefore DCE will put all info
(photos, prices, delivery time etc.) onto their website. Should be available on thursday.
Concerning the driver: DCE simply paid a 3rd party developer (i.e. Frank Mariak) for his work to have the drivers. Elbox had
the chance to get the same. They would only have to invest some money of course."

The MASplayer which we distribute since early this month already sells well. Happily our customers are not dumb,
so we received some suggestions on additional possible use of the MASplayer:
MPEG-Movie-Player could surrender playing of sound completely to the MAS and thereby would have to deal almost
only with playing the movie.
Internet-Phone would be possible with acceptable speed and quality also on Amigas.
Internet-Radio via MASplayer is already under construction.

There will be a new release soon, when Zapek has finished the configurable popup menus.
There's also a amtelnet test release which might, or might not, address the Z-Modem-Transfer problems with Miami.
The source code to MicroDot-1 (not 2) was released on ftp.vapor.com.

14.10.2k AROS News
|
Cleanup of the AROS source tree by Bernardo Innocenti, primitive hardfile support of FFS-formatted floppy disks (ADF)
by Georg Steger and better mouse support for AROS Native/x86 by Tobias Seiler (mouse buttons work now). Georg threw
in some additional code to change the position of the mouse pointer on the screen and now you can move the window
around. Since VGA.HIDD doesn't support the XOR drawing mode, yet, there is still some garbage when you move the
window but that should be fixed, soon :-)

14.10.2k SView Port News
|
The design of the C++ classes is completely platform-independent (e.g. regarding endianess)
and suitable to be ported for a wide range of operating systems, e.g. certain Linux
derivates, BeOS or QNX. Additionally, no compiler-specific C++ specialities are used
("baseline C++) and utilization within a - except that particular part - clean C program
is no problem. In the meantime the SView class library already successfully has been
ported to GCC under Linux/x86 (same source tree for Win32 and Linux). [ libsview.a (260K) ]
Usage with other compilers like e.g. Visual C++ 6 will be as simple.

14.10.2k Software News
|
Frogger 1.62 beta 2 for 68k and PPC is available here.
There is also new frogger start image.
There is silversurfer.device patch to V2.103. For copyright reasons, there is only a patch from V2.102 to V2.103 this time.
Since it's not 100% clear if this patch is legal or not, individual Computers have removed it to be on the safe side.
If you want to use the patch, it seems to be necessary to ask Harald Frank for a
permission to use an errorfree, updated version of his driver. Changes:
A1200 recognition routine only executed when A3000/A4000 not detected. This fixes the bug with some browsers and IDE problems after starting silversurfer.device on those machines.

13.10.2k DCE gets exclusive rights to publish Voodoo CGX drivers
|
Vision Factory Development (VFD) and DCE Computer Service signed an exclusive contract about the use
of current "CGX Voodoo"-Drivers. In contrast to earlier announcements, this driver will be
exclusively available for the G-REX PCI expansion only. This contract guarantees the immediate
availability and the best support a user can get for the current range of powerful voodoo graphics
boards in conjunction with all currently available ppc accelerators of the Blizzard-and CyberStorm
series. With the expected problems of PPC 3D drivers in conjunction with Mediator PCI and the
currently available PPC accelerators in Dual-CPU mode (68K 2D driver) in mind, VFD decided to drop
the further development of the actual Alpha Voodoo drivers for Mediator and concentrates on development
for the G-REX PCI board because drivers were succesfully tested already. Voodoo3 cards should give
you a significant performance boost for the current range of PPC accelerated games, flawless working
of the CyberGraphX driver can't be guaranteed due to technical hardware limitations of Mediator PCI
though, so VFD decided to go that way. As a final note, CGX Voodoo driver alpha versions that are
probably develivered with the Mediator harware are in no way authorized or licensed by VFD. Current
S3 ViRGE drivers are not affected by this agreement. DCE and VFD also decided to work together on
additional drivers regarding both networking and sound in conjunction with G-REX PCI.

11.10.2k VMC-ISDN V3 Beta89 now including Mac-FreePPP Support
|
Harald Frank: "After many days of hard work and several hundred dial-in tests, we are able to offer an improved version
of VMC-ISDN, which from the current version works with all Mac FreePPP versions without problems.
VMC-ISDN is now the only ISDN card software for AmigaOS allowing the Apple Macintosh emulators Shapeshifter of Fusion to build
internet connections directly via ISDN and Sync-PPP. None of the currently available Amiga ISDN card drivers offers such an option,
but often have such fatal errors in the protocols that make user-friendly operation impossible.
First tests showed that internet banking, requiring Java, can now be utilized with your Amiga using an ISDN card and a Mac emulator
like ShapeShifter or Fusion, installing NetscapeNavigator or the InternetExplorer on your virtual Mac."

11.10.2k Exodus & Husaria News
|
At the moment there were four different versions of "Exodus - The Last War" released : a polish, a german, an english, and a french one.
Soon the Czech version will be available for download.
There are plans for developing another game; code name "Husaria". In Polish this means a kind of heavy cavalry, soldiers specialized
for fast attacks, which were noted for their victories particulary during the 17th century. For example King Jan III Sobieski who has
supported Austria against Turkey in the battle near Vienna. For this new project the programmers are looking for the following things:
Maps of Europe from 16th and 17th century.
Fotos of castles, palaces and buildings used for economic purposes of the above mentioned centuries.
Fotos or pictures of armours and weapons of this time.
If possible, we need pictures of all 4 walls of the buildings, because we need this for making 3d-models out of them. It would be nice
if you could tell us the name of the e.g. castle, and maybe send us a little map showing the location.
If you would like to help us, you can send your material via email to

7.10.2k The Biggest (literally) Freeware Football Management Game
|
Kamil Barczynski: "PSV Manager is a football management game extravaganza. Giant and very playable program full of humor.
After success of Polish version, we have prepared the English edition. Why you should check out this game? Because:
only here you'll find 9 real/fantasy leagues and 40 generated
you can choose any of 46 teams in each league
you'll be playing in league and domestic cup competitions
all European cups are simulated (including Intertoto Cup and Cup Winners Cup)
there are at least 10 ways to buy or loan player from one of approximatly 1000 teams (maybe more)
summer and winter breakes are full of options to choose from (for example indoor-football tournaments, trips to foreign camps, friendly matches, transfers, vacations, etc.)
many options, statistics, hidden chances (or traps) gives that game an unforgetable atmosphere thanks to funny samples commenting Your actual situation.
Aand all of this you can have for free! System requirements: any Amiga, 2 MB Chip, 4 MB Fast, HDD: about 300 MB of free space for full version; about 48 MB of free space for
basic version (without samples).
IMPORTANT: Since Aminet administrators have refused to include "PSV" to their archive, because of its, according to their opinion, controversial content (especially samples
taken from movies, sitcoms, cartoons, songs, etc.), we are looking for some ftp/web site, which could distribute our game (about 200MB of free space is needed).

3.10.2k Eternity - New Distributor of the MAS-player
|
Since October 1st, 2000 Eternity took over the distribution of the MAS-Player in cooperation with Dirk Conrad.
The MAS-Player is a hardware MP3-player that can be used with every Amiga parallel interface. The program
plays MP3´s in 18bit and 44kHz with very low CPU usage and is therefore the best and cheapes solution for
playing MP3-files with an Amiga computer. A techpage will follow. Eternity will ask Thomas Wenzel if he
would support the MAS-Player with his AmigaAmp. Eternity will offer a 6 month guarantee.

3.10.2k AmiWolfenDoom Website Moved, and one Appeal
|
The AmiWolfenDoom homepage has moved and is now available at www.antibyte.de.
Robert Wahnsiedler is still on the hunt for a person that is able to modify the ADoom-engine for making Ninja-,
Simpson and Batman-Doom possible. According to the downloadrates of AmiWolfenDoom the interest of the users is
very high. For the modifycations you must have C/Assembler skills and you have to read the docs. There are no
major changes to make but the DEH support must be revisde (patch of the internal graphic/sound/textroutines by
using a Ascii-file with commands). For example there is no recognition of text. This causes games that use these
kind of functions to crash. If you are interested, please contact Robert Wahnsiedler.

Just copy the file 'VirusExecutor.patches' to the VirusExecutor: drawer and restart VirusExecutor
LAME v3.87 beta - MP3 Encoder (020, 040, 060, PPC/PowerUp).
Lame v3.87 no longer works with SecondSpin without changing the code and recompiling, thus LameSpin no longer works, and is no longer included.
On the good note this version is slightly faster, especially the PPC version! ;)

1.10.2k SecondSpin author pledges for help!
|
Lauri Ahonen: "I can't locate the source of the famous prefs crashing bug in SecondSpin v2.09Beta.
It works flawlessly in my machine so tracing the bug down with my debugging skills (which are
non-existent :P) is near impossible, nor talking about actually fixing it! I would be very
grateful if someone pro could trace the bug down and fix it... it's slowing SS development to
almost none! I suspect some custom library SecondSpin uses, notably the tritonrexx.library.
Please help me and fix it! You can download the main archive from my
web page."

1.10.2k VMC-ISDN V3 is now Online Officially
|
VMC: "Thanks to the many friendly beta-testers we now are able to offer an official version for the new VMC-ISDN software
for all of the interested, and each owner of an Amiga ISDN board. Though this version still doesn´t has all the features VMC is currently working on, but it fits to
make users realize there is no faster driver for ISDN boards for the Amiga. This version also contains complete example configuration files for every German Call-by-Call
internet providers, and Miami or MiamiDeluxe. Since like all the time users have been asking for prices, functions or limitations of the drivers an extensive AmigaGuide
document was included, which hopefully answers all these questions.
